Welcome to Jacket’s Required, hello, I’m Dominic Lacquaniti, designer and tailor.
This week’s episode of Jackets required TV is about Jacket Sleeve Length.
Imagine you’re meeting an important client, or your future father in law who is really old-school cool… You could easily be judged the moment you extend your hand in greeting if your jacket sleeve is too short or too long. You don’t want to appear as if you are wearing your father’s suit and it’s too big for you. You’re not a kid playing at being an adult, you are a MAN and you’d better be dressed like one in these situations if you want to be taken seriously! Inversely if your sleeves are too short it could appear that your suit is out of date and that you’re still trying to squeeze into a suit from your high school graduation. Not good.
The tip here is that when you are being fitted for your suit jackets you MUST keep your arms relaxed at your side or the measurements will be off.
The hem of your jacket sleeves should hit right around the middle of your hand, or just where your fingers meet your palm when your arms are extended in your natural resting position.
Share with your stylish, and style-challenged friends, and be sure to let me know if you have a specific question or topic you’d like to see in the series.
Thanks for watching. See you next week. Remember, looking good is between you and your tailor…
